Beach Trip - Part 1

We got to take an early trip to the beach this summer (is it technically even summer yet?). When Micah figures out he can get away for a few days, we usually drop everything and head to the beach (sometimes with only a few days notice). I'm so thankful we live so close to the beach and we have family who lets us stay at their beach place!

The first day we were there, it was a bit overcast and cool, so we headed to the Battleship NC. The girls had never been there, and with all the stairs, and climbing over and under things on the ship, we figured it would be like a huge playground for them. And we were right! Even though they didn't understand the significance of the battleship or appreciate the sacrifice made by soldiers on the ship, they enjoyed climbing through it. We definitely pointed out all the US flags we saw and tried to tell them as best we could about the battleship. We want the girls to understand the freedom we have in America, and appreciate the sacrifice people have made for that freedom. On a side note, I am proud to say that SB can say the Pledge of Allegiance and sing the National Anthem (even AM knows the first few lines of the National Anthem).

And what is a trip to the beach without digging in the sand and playing in the waves? It's amazing to see how much more adventurous they get each time we go to the beach. This year, they both loved to jump over the little waves at the edge of the ocean, and SB would even take a bucket down to the water by herself to get some water to help in building sandcastles. For the first time, they discovered the joys of burying people in the sand, and going for long walks down the beach (they usually came back wet and laughing from our walks!).
